西元前,這裏是高盧人的居住地。西元400年後日爾曼人入侵,先後成為法蘭克王國和查裏曼帝國的一部分。西元936年～1354年,先後為神聖羅馬帝國阿登伯爵、盧森堡伯爵和盧森堡公爵的自治領地。15世紀～18世紀曆受西班牙、法國和奧地利統治。1815年維也納會議決定盧為大公國,由荷蘭國王兼任大公,同時又為德意志同盟的成員。1839年倫敦協議承認盧為獨立國家。1867年成為中立國。1868年實行君主立憲制。1890年前拿騷公爵阿道夫成為盧大公,徹底擺脫荷蘭國王的統治。兩次大戰中均被德國入侵。1948年放棄中立政策,1949年加入北約,與法、德、意、荷、比一起,於1952年創建歐洲煤鋼共同體,於1958年創建歐洲經濟共同體和歐洲原子能共同體。
西元前５０年有高盧人部族居住。西元４００年後，日爾曼部族入侵，先後成為法蘭克王國和查理曼帝國的一部分。西元９６３年形成由阿登伯爵西格弗裏德治理的統一體。１５－１８世紀先後受西班牙、法國、奧地利統治。１８１５年歐洲維也納會議決定盧森堡為大公國，由荷蘭國王兼任大公，同時又為德意志同盟的成員。１８６６年脫離德意志同盟。１８６７年為中立國家。第二次世界大戰中盧森堡被德國佔領，大公流亡英格蘭。１９４８年，盧森堡放棄中立，先後參加北大西洋公約組織和歐洲共同體。
Between 15th and 18th centuries Luxembourg was ruled by Spain, France and Austria.the Congress of Vienna in 1815 made Luxembourg a grand duchy and allotted it as an independent state to the King of the Netherlands. in the mean time it was a member of the Federal Germany League. It left the Germanic Confederation in 1866. in 1867, Luxembourg was declared a neutral state.During World War II, Luxembourg was invaded by the Germans and the Grand Duchy went in exile in England. in 1948, Luxembourg abandoned its neutrality and has since became an active member of NATO and EEC.
